I would like to respectfully acknowledge the Snuneymuxw First Nation, on whose Traditional Territory I currently live, teach, and create music and art. I am thankful to be here and hope to continue learning how I can respectfully honour this land and the people who have cared for it since time immemorial.
I'm Eric KM Clark, a violinist, educator, and artist recently returned home to Vancouver Island after almost two decades working in Los Angeles. In California, I spent 13 years as a Strings Director, Instructor, and first violinist at the Kadima Conservatory of Music, followed by 3 years on faculty with the Schwab Academy at Ventura College. My students have gone on to schools including USC, NYU, Vassar, Chapman, and various University of California campuses.
I teach violin and viola around the city of Nanaimo, with a focus on dedicated students who want to deepen their musicianship. My teaching combines strong technical foundations with creativity, curiosity, and individual expression, helping each student build confidence, discipline, and a personal musical voice.
Alongside teaching and performing, I also led two nonprofit arts organizations in Los Angeles, the wulf. and Southland Ensemble, supporting creative music, collaboration, and community-based artistic work. As a recording musician, I have recorded violin and viola for artists including Ty Segall, Mikal Cronin, Wand, and Sarah Davachi, with work spanning classical, experimental, contemporary, and creative music.
I hold an MFA in Performance and Composition from the California Institute of the Arts along with a BMus from the University of Victoria. I am also a member of the British Columbia Registered Music Teachers’ Association (BCRMTA). You are welcome to explore more of my performance, recording, and artistic background at erickmclark.com.
Lessons are available in person at my Nanaimo home studio, at your home for an additional travel fee, and online. If you are looking for thoughtful, high-level violin or viola instruction, I’d be happy to hear from you.
