Lessons, Tuition & Location
I teach from my home studio in the Northfield / Forest Park area of Nanaimo. Lessons are available in students’ homes throughout Nanaimo for an additional travel fee, as well as online by request. My studio is a welcoming and supportive environment for dedicated students seeking to deepen their musicianship and creativity.
Tuition is a flat monthly fee that secures your weekly lesson time and balances the school year from September through June, regardless of whether a given calendar month contains 3, 4, or 5 lessons. Requests to reschedule must be received by 12 p.m. the day before the lesson, and can only be accommodated within the same calendar month.
Most intermediate and advanced students are encouraged to take 45- or 60-minute lessons, allowing enough time for technique, repertoire, musicianship, and creative development. Longer lessons may also be arranged when appropriate. Summer lessons are available on request.
Single lessons and coachings are available on request for advanced students, short-term audition preparation, chamber music coaching, and related projects.
If that sounds like a good fit, I'd love to hear from you!

I'm Eric KM Clark, a violinist, educator, and artist recently returned home to Vancouver Island after almost two decades working in Los Angeles. I would like to respectfully acknowledge the Snuneymuxw First Nation, on whose Traditional Territory I currently live, teach, and create music. I am thankful to be here and hope to continue learning how I can respectfully honour this land and the people who have cared for it.
In California, I spent 13 years as a Strings Director, Instructor, and first violinist at the Kadima Conservatory of Music, followed by 3 years on faculty with the Schwab Academy at Ventura College. My students have gone on to schools including USC, NYU, Vassar, Chapman, and various University of California campuses.
I teach violin and viola around the city of Nanaimo, with a focus on dedicated students who want to deepen their musicianship. My teaching combines strong technical foundations with creativity, curiosity, and individual expression, helping each student build confidence, discipline, and a personal musical voice.
Alongside teaching and performing, I also led two nonprofit arts organizations in Los Angeles, the wulf. and Southland Ensemble, supporting creative music, collaboration, and community-based artistic work. As a recording musician, I have recorded violin and viola for artists including Ty Segall, Mikal Cronin, Wand, and Sarah Davachi, with work spanning classical, experimental, contemporary, and creative music.
I hold an MFA in Performance and Composition from the California Institute of the Arts along with a BMus from the University of Victoria. You are welcome to explore more of my performance, recording, and artistic background at erickmclark.com.
Lessons are available in person at my Nanaimo home studio, at your home for an added fee, and online. If you are looking for thoughtful, high-level violin or viola instruction, I’d be happy to hear from you.
